New Study Area Designations

Have you noticed the new study area signs throughout the library?

Over the summer we adjusted the noise level designations for some of the spaces in the library, and I updated the graphics and put up new signs.

The biggest change is that the 3rd floor is no longer silent, it's quiet -- we want to get folks using the new silent study area near Reference. Please take a look at the great study zones web page Randy set up to get the full details.

Leave a comment letting me know what you think about the signs, or the changes.

I think the updated signs look great, awesome job designing those! Also, I think it's good that we have more quiet study space, both to direct silent study-ers to the new study area, and also because I think many people (including me) prefer a bit of ambient noise when studying and quiet rather than silent areas are more conducive to that...so it might encourage more people to study in the library. - Kelsey

The signs are very clear, and I think designating 3rd floor as a quiet area will definitely encourage greater use of the silent study room for those who prefer silence. It's also nice that both silent study areas are on the first floor, instead of the atrium on the first floor and another silent area on the third floor, as it adds a little organization to the designated zones.

I really like the new signs, they are clear, informative, and look great! I personally like that the third floor is now quiet rather than silent, just because I usually end up studying in the quiet study zones, and I feel that a lot of students prefer quiet/conversational over completely silent.
