Hi everyone!

We have begun using specific tags in Gimlet when we answer a question about periodicals, microfilm, and microfiche. Please remember to use the tags when you record a question. It makes it easier for the librarians to assess the types of questions we answer, which helps us understand the needs of our patrons better.

If you can't find the tag you're looking for in the tag cloud, type it into the box and choose the appropriate one that auto-populates.

Please read the message below from Debbie Malone, which will give you more information on how to use the tags. For example, she describes how assisting a patron by using Journal Finder would necessitate the use of the Periodicals tag.

Hi Everyone!

I would appreciate your assistance in using gimlet to track questions about periodicals, microfilm and microfiche.

Two new official tags have been created in addition to the microfilm and microfiche tags:

These can be used in addition to any notes you write and with other tags or Question type identifiers.

I want to keep this as simple as possible so ~

Periodicals tag: use for any kind of question about journals, magazines, newspapers -- a lot of these type of questions would fall under Journal Finder searches ~

• holdings check (do we have it and what format);
• how to access a periodical/where to find it;
• locating at other libraries (if we don't have it);
• ILL if we don't have it;

Periodicals_print tag: add this tag if the question specifically involves dealing with a title we have only in print, especially if you need to take the patron into our stacks to assist them with locating the issue they want.

if you can remember to add the title to the notes, that would be really great too!

Microfilm and microfiche tags: use these in conjunction with the Periodicals tag when it turns out that the title someone wants is only in microfilm or fiche formats or that you make a referral to Patrick or Ava to assist someone with using the microform scanning equipment.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your assistance.
