Printer & Toner

Hi everyone!

We've been going through toner for the GoPrint printers at an alarming rate this semester, so I want to offer some words in case we're unnecessarily changing the toner cartridges.

First of all, each toner cartridge costs approx. $180. That's a lot of dough!

Secondly, if someone says their print job came out streaky, don't believe them till you see it. And even if you do see it, investigate the toner situation:

• Take the toner out of the printer and feel it. Does it feel empty? Does it feel full?

• Shake the toner cartridge up, and put it back. That will provide more streak-free printing for a while. After a while, if people start complaining about their print job being streaky, then we know the toner is definitely running low and you can go ahead and change it.

We will start keeping a log of how often we change the toner, and what printer's toner we changed. The log will be in the storage closet by the toner, so you won't forget to fill it out!

Thanks everyone.
And just a reminder, please comment on the entry so I know you're aware of the new log.

Paper Supply and Toner Instructions

**These instructions are also taped inside the paper cupboard at the back of the Reference Desk

Paper Supply and Used Toner Cartridges Instructions

Paper Supply

The main supply of paper for the library is stored in the Reference storage closet. Reference student assistants are responsible for stocking the paper supply cupboard with paper from the supply closet.

Instructions:

1. Bring 3-4 boxes of paper (10 reams in each box) out of the supply closet when the number of reams in the cupboard drops to 5 or 6. Using a book cart to do this is quite handy.

2. After emptying the boxes, break them down (you can rip them apart with your hands or use a box-cutter) and deposit the flat cardboard by or in the recycling bins in Technical Services. If you do not know where these recycling bins are, ask someone and they will tell you.

3. Don’t be surprised if the supply diminishes quickly—Periodicals, in addition to Technical Services and Circulation, will pick up paper here.

4. If you notice the number of boxes in the supply closet has dropped below 5, let Kelci know. She will order more.

Used Toner Cartridges

We recycle the used toner cartridges. There are two ways to accomplish this.

Instructions:

1. After removing the new toner cartridge, place the used cartridge inside plastic wrap and put it inside the box. Leave the mailing label in the box.

2. Give the used toner cartridge box to the Office Depot/USF deliveryman when he brings boxes of paper. ~OR~

3. Write
To: Purchasing
Attn: Arthur

On a scrap card and tape it to the top of the used toner cartridge box. After 2 or 3 have accumulated in the closet, take them over to the outgoing mail table in the back of Access Services.

Deliveries of Paper and Other Supplies

When Kelci orders paper, an Office Depot delivery person will wheel the delivery into the library. When this person asks you for Kelci...

Instructions:

1. Open up the storage closet and have the delivery person put the paper in there.

2. Call Kelci so she can sign for the delivery.

3. If Kelci is not available to sign for the delivery, you or a librarian can sign for it. Just make sure the paperwork gets to Kelci's mailbox or desk.
