Reminder of Daily Duties
'Ello my fine friends! This post is a reminder of your daily responsibilities as a Reference Desk Student Assistant. Most of you are usually pretty good at making sure these things get done, but I have noticed a drop as the semester heads into midterms.
1. Check mail in technical services. Either check the student manual or ask Kelci if you are not familiar with this. Names to get mail for:
2. Paper in printers
3. Check all reference computers for functionality
4. Pick-ups and shelving
5. Reference room “aesthetic” check (chairs pushed in, no trash, etc.)
6. Check loose-leaf titles for filing
7. Shelf reading (20 – 30 minutes)
8. Check scrap card holders and golf pencil supply on all the Ignacio terminals and around the reference desk
9. Check student work basket
10. Check staples in the stapler
1. Sort books on new books trucks (regular new books, not new reference books)
• As the new book trucks come in, Kelci will attempt to find a time you are working when she can go over how to do this with you.
2. Clean reference computers’ keyboard, mice, and screen. There is a log to keep track of the last time this was done in the front of the student manual.
3. Sort, count, and shelve new Reference books
• After using the "student key" to lock the cabinet where we keep all the department keys, make sure the student key, which is in the small drawer above the drawer with student folders in it, is placed on the labeled nail on the bulletin board in the Reference Technology Office (Randy’s office). In order to get Randy’s door open, you’ll need to use one of the keys in the Master key set (blue key ring), prop open Randy’s door, put the student key on the hook on the bulletin board in his office, then
• Make sure the Reference Technology Office door is locked before you leave
