Duplex Printing & Jams

Hello!

Yesterday the printers in the Reference Room were set to print double-sided (aka duplex) by default, except if printing from a mac (for the time being).

And yesterday we also had our first bad duplex-related print jam.

With much struggle, I figured out how to unjam it. Here's the run down:

First of all, the screen on the printer notifies you that there is a jam in the duplex mechanism.

If you hit the blue question mark (?) button, it will give you an illustrated guide on how to unjam it.

You want to take off the square thing sticking out of the back by pushing up then pulling out.
The paper will be stuck in that thing.

What are you problems you've had with the printers? What are some tech troubleshooting issues you've found particularly challenging?

Paper Supply and Toner Instructions

Paper Supply and Used Toner Cartridges Instructions

Paper Supply

The main supply of paper for the library is stored in the Reference storage closet. Reference student assistants are responsible for stocking the paper supply cupboard with paper from the supply closet.

Instructions:

1. Bring 3-4 boxes of paper (10 reams in each box) out of the supply closet when the number of reams in the cupboard drops to 5 or 6. Using a book cart to do this is quite handy.

2. After emptying the boxes, break them down (you can rip them apart with your hands or use a box-cutter) and deposit the flat cardboard by or in the recycling bins in Technical Services. If you do not know where these recycling bins are, ask someone and they will tell you.

3. Don’t be surprised if the supply diminishes quickly—Periodicals, in addition to Technical Services and Circulation, will pick up paper here.

4. If you notice the number of boxes in the supply closet has dropped below 5, let Kelci know. She will order more.

Used Toner Cartridges

We recycle the used toner cartridges. There are two ways to accomplish this.

Instructions:

1. After removing the new toner cartridge, place the used cartridge inside plastic wrap and put it inside the box. Leave the mailing label in the box.

2. Give the used toner cartridge box to the Office Depot/USF deliveryman when he brings boxes of paper. ~OR~

3. Write
To: Purchasing
Attn: Arthur

On a scrap card and tape it to the top of the used toner cartridge box. After 2 or 3 have accumulated in the closet, take them over to the outgoing mail table in the back of Access Services.

Deliveries of Paper and Other Supplies

When Kelci orders paper, an Office Depot delivery person will wheel the delivery into the library. When this person asks you for Kelci...

Instructions:

1. Open up the storage closet and have the delivery person put the paper in there.

2. Call Kelci so she can sign for the delivery.

3. If Kelci is not available to sign for the delivery, you or a librarian can sign for it. Just make sure the paperwork gets to Kelci's mailbox or desk.
