Changing print job settings

Hello! The new Xerox machines have been deployed and the drivers have mostly been updated on the computers in the Reference lab.

The new drivers set us back to square one in terms of the special configurations we used to control single sided/double sided and black and white/color.

Until I can get ITS to fix them, here is how to manipulate the new settings on the Apple computers. Note, Adobe Reader uses its own print dialog box that is very different. Open PDFs with Preview to utilize the steps below.

1. Print jobs default to black and white and double sided.
2. To change a print job to color, follow these steps:

In the print dialog box, click where it says Copies and Pages and select Xerox Features.

Note: In some programs, you want to look for the name of the program rather than Copies and Pages. Here in Firefox, you would want to click where it says Firefox:

Next, click on the sub-menu that says Paper/Output and select Color Options.

You have arrived! For documents composed of pages with color and pages of black and white, select Automatic Color to allow Pharos to decide to charge $.30 for pages with color and $.06 for pages in black and white. Select Vivid Color for all color, and for pictures/images.

3. You will also find the setting to turn off duplex printing in that special Xerox Features menu.

4. Lastly, I am told you can manipulate these settings on the Xerox machine itself, so send some test prints and play around with it a little bit. Let me know what you find out, because I haven't been able to do it myself.

Good luck, let me know of any troubles you encounter on the Xerox road!
