Update on the Periodicals Department

Welcome back! Spring 2014 in the house!

Have you checked out the second floor of the library yet? Brace yourself... it's a lot different.

As I mentioned in an email, over the break, Facilities demolished the Periodicals service desk, the microform and microfilm cabinets were moved to the Lower Level, and the South wing of the 2nd floor is now a very open conversation study area.

Periodicals Librarian Debbie Malone still has her office on the second floor, while the library assistants Ava Koohbor and Patrick Dunagan, along with the student workers, have moved their desks and operations to the Access Services Department.

All these changes have had little effect on the print periodicals on the second floor. They are all still up there, shelved alphabetically by title. The main difference is that the daily newspapers are not put out for display. The daily issue of the newspapers are shelved with the other newspapers, instead of being put on a display pole and displayed. If you or a patron does have trouble finding something, consult with the librarian on duty or Ava or Patrick (check the library staff directory for their contact info).

Only the future will tell what will eventually become of the space... currently we do not know the plans for furniture, layout, etc.

If you're interested in tracking the development, I'm told the Gleeson Library Facebook page has been featuring photos of the progress. So check it out!
